What to expect during a massage…
Thinking back to my days as a process improvement engineer, the first step in any review was always to examine the customer journey—to see the experience from the customer’s perspective. With that in mind, I thought it would be helpful to consider what this journey looks like for clients of Suzanne Wigmore Massage Therapist, so you know what to expect during a massage.
It all begins with a moment when you realise you need support. You may have an injury, be training for an event, or dealing with an ongoing issue that’s starting to impact your daily life. What can you do about it? You likely talk to family or friends about your discomfort, perhaps even search online for ways to help yourself. But sometimes, professional support is the best option—and that’s where I come in.
First Contact
There are several ways to get in touch with me—you can reach out via my website, email, phone, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp. However, the quickest way to have a chat about how I can help is to book an online consultation. This allows me to understand your history, what has brought you to me, and how we can move forward together. I’ll also explain the treatment process so that you feel comfortable every step of the way.
Hands-On Treatment
Once you’re booked in, it’s time for the best part! Come along to my cosy Garden Room on Beverley Road in Watchfield—don’t worry, there’s plenty of parking. Wear whatever feels comfortable. While skin-to-skin contact usually yields the best results, I’m happy to work over clothing if that’s your preference. My room is always heated, and in colder months, I use an electric blanket and hot stones for added warmth. I’ll leave you to get settled on the table, usually starting face down.
If you’re wondering what to expect during a massage, each treatment is tailored to the client but often includes:
- Hot stone massage for soothing heat therapy.
- Myofascial release, a slow, stretching movement to release tension.
- Trigger point therapy, which involves holding onto tight areas to allow them to soften.
- Stretching on the table to enhance mobility.
- Take-home stretches to continue your progress between sessions.
If you forget any exercises, don’t worry—I’ll send a follow-up email with a summary and a handy video demonstration.
Next Steps
Depending on how you feel after your first session, additional treatments are often beneficial. Pain doesn’t always originate from the area where you feel discomfort, so a few sessions close together help to fully address the root cause. To make this easier, I offer discounted packages when you book a block of 3 or 6 appointments.
What to Expect Afterwards
After your session, I recommend drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous activity—let the treatment do its work. Some clients experience mild tenderness around the treated area the next day, which should subside within a day or two, leaving you feeling looser and more comfortable. If you do feel sore, a heat pack or warm bath can help ease any discomfort.
Remember, recovery is not always a straight-line process. Some days you may feel like you’ve taken a step back, but improvements should come more quickly as your body adjusts. If you have any concerns after your treatment, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
I hope this helps you to know what to expect during a massage, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
